India is a large country in South Asia, and it is known for the great variety of its land. In the north stand the Himalayas, the highest mountain range in the world. These mountains protect the country from the cold winds that blow from Central Asia, and their snow feeds many rivers that flow throughout the year. Just below the mountains lie the wide northern plains, formed over thousands of years by the soil brought down by the Ganga, the Yamuna and the Brahmaputra. These plains are among the most fertile areas of the world, and crores of people depend on them for farming. To the west lies the Thar Desert, where rainfall is low and summers are very hot. Life in the desert is hard, but the people of the region have built a rich culture around wells, camels and colourful fairs. To the south of the plains is the Deccan Plateau, an old block of hard rock that is rich in minerals such as iron ore, manganese and bauxite. The plateau is bordered by the Western Ghats and the Eastern Ghats, two chains of hills that run along the coasts. India has a long coastline on three sides, with the Arabian Sea to the west, the Bay of Bengal to the east and the Indian Ocean to the south. Ports along this coast have linked the country to the rest of the world for centuries. The Andaman and Nicobar Islands and the Lakshadweep Islands add to the beauty of the map. The climate of India is shaped mainly by the monsoon. Between June and September, moist winds from the sea bring rain to most parts of the country. A good monsoon fills reservoirs, raises the level of ground water and helps farmers grow rice, pulses and cotton. A weak monsoon can cause drought and hurt the economy. For this reason, the arrival of the monsoon is watched closely every year by farmers, traders and the government alike. Understanding the geography of India helps every citizen respect its resources and use them wisely.

  • SSC CHSL (LDC / JSA) —

    35 WPM ≈ 10,500 KDPH · 10

  • SSC CHSL (LDC / JSA) —

    30 WPM ≈ 9,000 KDPH · 10

  • SSC CHSL DEO (ज़्यादातर विभाग) / CGL DEST

  • Net WPM = Gross WPM − (बची हुई ग़लतियाँ ÷ मिनट)
